Summer is halfway over – at least from the school holiday perspective – and summer tour season is well underway. Some of the best tours and festivals are still going strong, though. And some are just getting started! For this week’s Thursday 13, my list comprises acts that I either will see, or desperately want to see, before their tours are over.
13 Musical Acts/Fests I’m Dying to See This Summer!
1. Hank III & Assjack
2. The Dead Weather
3. TOOL
4. Vans Warped Tour, particularly Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Forever the Sickest Kids, Jeffree Star, Shooter Jennings, The Ataris, and TSOL.
5. Sevendust
6. Seventh Void
7. NIN – I missed NIN/JA, but supposedly more dates are being added. Even though there’s no way I can make it to a big city like that, I’d still LOVE to!
8. Lyle Lovett
9. B.B. King (not gonna happen as all the dates are overseas, but he’s touring and I’d like to see him!)
10. Drive-By Truckers
11. The Black Crowes
12. Rockstar Mayhem Fest featuring Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage, & Bullet for My Valentine (and Cannibal Corpse!) (Wiki page in case the official site won’t load.)
13. Green Day – Going to the Nashville show!

And I thought I had eclectic tastes in music. A couple of these I’ve never even heard of, but would love to see BB King and Green Day. Isn’t the latest GD song awesome?!

@Heather, Oh, I LOVE the latest GD. I’ve been listening pretty much nonstop for a few weeks now

@chelle, I saw Kiss once before, but it was back in ‘85, when they had already ditched the makeup. It just wasn’t the same. Both of those acts are living legends now, so I would love seeing either. Maybe you can still see Sir Paul?

@Hazel, I love scary people and music! I doubt I can make it to Mayhem Fest since it’s so close to the date of the Green Day show I will be attending in Nashville. But I still want!
I definitely want to see B.B. King, though, since I’ve never seen him live, and he’s getting a bit older. He may retire before I ever get a chance to see him live!

Well, I have seen BB King – saw him with Buddy Guy. I have thrid row center seats for the Mayhem Festival here in Virginia Beach in August. I have seen TOOL 4 times. They are my all time favorite. I post-poned the delivery of my oldest by two days so I would not miss them. I was so happy my doctor obliged. Last time was June of ‘07.
Good list.

@soapbox.SUPERSTAR, now you make me feel like a slacker when it comes to shows!
How’d you get such great seats for Mayhem? I think the Atlanta show is all general admission, or at least on the floor.
[Reply]
July 9th, 2009 at 10:23 am
@Devilish Southern Belle, I was online waiting for them to go on sale – bought four tix immediately. My husband and his buddy Barry were oh so happy. I just hope they don’t end up drunk enough to start acting like this again!!!
Our amphitheater has covered seating, then lawn seats behind the seats. They reserve a small area right in front for standing “dancefloor” tix, then seating, then lawn. See here. We are 3rd row center in section 102. I am too damn old for dancefloor – I prefer to sit, in the covered shade and enjoy my beers while watching the show.

@soapbox.SUPERSTAR, I hear ya! I am way too old to grab a spot along the guard rail up front, but I always do. After the Hatebreed show I went to, though, I’ve decided I’ll only do that for my very favorite bands from now on
Have fun at Mayhem! Are you seeing TOOL again this year, or have you already? I’ve never been able to see them, either
Loved the story about your oldest, though! I’m not sure I’d have been up for a show two days before childbirth!

@Devilish Southern Belle, They did not come through here on this tour or anywhere that I even consider close enough to drive. Maybe next time. We saw them in Virginia Beach three times, then in Richmond, VA in summer of ‘07. Blogged about that one here.

We saw the Allman Bros. and then Phish and a small show with The Radiators (you’d like them – New Orleans funky) thus far this Spring/Summer. My hubby would love to see the Drive By Truckers – me, not so much. I REALLY wanted to see NIN when they came through but couldn’t find a lot of interest for someone to go with – crazy right?

@Devilish Southern Belle,
I’m actually including you in my “Spontaneous Saturday Shout Outs” post right now – heh. It’ll be up in a few.
Just email me a shuffle of the top ten songs to come up on your iPod (on ’shuffle’ – lol). I love the way you comment on each here in your blog – that would be perfect. Also, include the links to two of your favorite posts, so we can come over here and bask in your awesomeness.
I’ll let you know the day before it goes up (I’m thinking next week) in case you’d like to let your gang know.) Thanks so much for doing this.
